Job Title: Advisory Board Member

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advisory Board Member with a background in UK Venture Capital, to join a new Fund which will invest in UK climate technology companies. This is a remunerated position and is part time.
In addition to playing a part in the technological evolution of an industry that will literally change the world, the post offers the chance to work alongside a highly skilled board of directors and a share of the rewards earned.
COMPANY
A climate tech venture fund, on a mission to enable net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, by investing in new climate technologies at late ‘seed’ and ‘series A’ stages, with a typical investment size of £1m - £5m. The Fund has its FCA approvals, has built a strong pipeline of dealflow and is in the early stages of its fundraising.
ROLE
Advisory Board Member, London, Edinburgh, UK Remote
Time commitment: up to 20 days per annum (negotiable)
Meeting attendance: (predominantly virtual) Advisory Board, Fund Management Board, Investment Committee and some Investor Relations meetings
Remit: Advising the Fund Management team on:
- Fundraising and Operational aspects of the Fund
- Investment strategy and investor relations
- Strategy at investee companies such as commercialising post R&D, scaling up, growth and exit strategies
Additional:
- Providing adhoc support, advising the General Partners
- Facilitating introductions to support the Fund’s activities (principally raising further Funds, enhancing skills of the Fund’s team and investee companies)
- Sharing knowledge of business, market, sector and industry trends
- Identifying new business opportunities
- Taking a seat on the boards of investee companies - if appropriate (negotiable)
PERSON
Based in London, Edinburgh, Remote
Ideal Background
Strong experience of being a GP and managing a UK venture capital/private equity fund
- Fund operational management experience
- Experience of nurturing and growing investee companies
- Track record of making VC/PE investment deals and successful exits
- Late Seed or Series A investments in deal sizes £1m-10m,
- Strong interest in climate tech, low carbon, net zero
- Technology background
Ideal networks
- Relationships with Fund investors / stakeholders
- Institutional funds and family offices for fundraising
- Network of UK senior stakeholders at relevant companies for potential exits
- Connections in UK and / or Scottish Governments
- Commercial networks particular to VC fundraising, investing, and for growing companies or exits to large OEMs
- Commercial networks to assist strategy and development of investee companies
Desirable
- Experience in climate tech, technology or renewables sectors
- Significant technical or functional expertise, general business growth experience, perhaps a successful track record at CEO level and a background in setting strategy, direction, and priorities
